Southwest Transportation NOW Meeting Held in Menifee

SW Trans

The Riverside Transportation Agency’s (RTA) meeting for the Southwest Chapter of the Transportation NOW (TNOW) advocacy group was held in Menifee on Nov. 20 at City Hall (29844 Haun Rd.) The event also served as an opportunity for attendees to ride a commuter bus along some of the main routes that transit riders utilize within the City’s limits.   “Public transportation is a vital component for the successful growth of a community like Menifee,” said Menifee Mayor Pro Tem and TNOW Board Member, Greg August. “Hosting the TNOW meeting with community leaders was a great opportunity to raise awareness of the benefits that RTA brings to Menifee and to the entire county.”  Along with the bus tour of Menifee, attendees also viewed a presentation on the basics of using public transportation, including planning a trip, dial-a-ride services, safety and security and passes for seniors, college students and individuals with special needs.   The Riverside Transit Agency has been operating bus service in Riverside County since 1977. RTA is the Consolidated Transportation Service Agency for western Riverside County and is responsible for coordinating transit services throughout the approximate 2,500 square-mile service area. RTA provides both local and regional services throughout the region with 39 fixed routes, eight CommuterLink express routes, and Dial-A-Ride services using 334 vehicles.   Since 1992, Transportation NOW has been an advocate and supporter of public transportation in Riverside County. The group’s mission includes garnering support and lobbying for funding, while raising awareness of the benefits to businesses and communities of environmentally sound, safe and energy-efficient transportation alternatives.
